Peter Blackie was born and raised in Gander, Newfoundland. He is a registered architect with both The Newfoundland Association of Architects, and the State of New York, and is a graduate of the Master of Architecture Program at the Technical University of Nova Scotia (TUNS) (1996), the Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies program, also TUNS(1994), and of the Bachelor of Arts Program (Philosophy) at Dalhousie University(1992).
Peter has nearly 20 years’ experience with firms around the world including the international award winning Halifax firm MacKay- Lyons Sweetapple Architects; the New York-based Architecture firm, Richard Cook & Associates (now Cook + Fox); Sauerbruch Hutton Architekten, and Entroup Architekturburo, both in Berlin, Germany.
For the past several years Peter has balanced work as an Architect with writing and producing television/film in St. John’s
Newfoundland. Peter has been involved with the CBC Television series Republic of Doyle, and has also teamed up with Shaun Majumder to help develop a significant community project in Shaun’s hometown of Burlington Newfoundland. Peter is also one of the producers of Majumder Manor, W Network’s television show that follows the genesis of this project. Most recently Peter and his brother, Robert, have created an Historical fiction drama set in the violent, greed driven world of the Canadian fur trade. This show, set in the late 1700’s, has been commissioned by Discovery Canada and Netflix.
Peter resides in St. John’s with his wife Shelagh, and daughter Violet.
